7 Reasons To Run Background Checks

1. Dating: The dating world has become a lot different than when our parents and grandparents were going to a drive-in movie. Online dating has become very popular in the 21st century. There have been many people who have found the love of there life. There have also been instances of people who have met their worst nightmare.

You should do a background check on anyone you are considering dating if you haven't known them very long, expecially if you met them online. Ask yourself these questions: "Are they married?", "Have they been convicted of a sex crime?", "Do they have a criminal history of any kind?". These are all things you should know before you go on that first date. Knowing these things could save your life and/or your money.

2. Child Support: Does your ex-husband or wife owe you child support but no one seems to be doing enough to find him or her? Did you know that you can find this person yourself?

Well you can, and it's not difficult. You can usually find the information you are seeking within minutes.

3. Employees: Finding good employees nowadays can be difficult at best. Running background checks on employees is a big plus for you. I mean do you really want someone who was caught steeling at his last job? Or someone with a temper who is capable of an assault on you or your other employees? Find out all this information before you hire someone.

4. Child Care: This one is very important. Our children are our lives and no one wants to intentionally put their child in jeopardy. A background check should be run on anyone who is alone with your child. Make sure your little one is safe when you can't be there. And it's very easy to do.

5. Beneficiaries or heirs: There is a lot of unclaimed money out there simply because the heir can't be found. Maybe you are one. Maybe there is other money that you are owed. Find out now and reap the benefits.

6. Your neighbors: Would you like to know who your neighbors really are? A great number of crimes have been committed by the victim's neighbor. How well do you really know yours?

7. Missing people: Do you know someone who has been missing?

They could be in jail. You can search jail records nationwide in minutes.

Closing The Job Interview

"When do I start?"

That's about as aggressive as you can get at the close of the interview. It may knock the interviewer for a loop, and might appear to be overly aggressive, but some people think of it as "closing the sale." And for some people it has worked. For others this approach may not be comfortable, or have a negative same effect.

Whether you are aggressive, passive and polite, or somewhere in between, will depend on your personality, the interview situation, and the job for which you are applying.

Closing Points

Regardless of your style or how you choose to close the interview, there are some key points to keep in mind.

1. Leave your interviewer with the right picture of you. (Think of at least five skills or traits you want remembered after the interview.) Choose something "concrete." When you answer with, "I have great communication skills and I am a hard worker," you will not stand out.

Example: "I have two skills that are distinctly different but that define my personality. I am a very good pianist and an excellent 'computer guy.' I'm known for my love of keyboards."

2. Ask if there is anything else you can provide. (References, background information, or samples?)

Example: "Is there any other information that I can provide that would convince you that I am the right person for this job?"

3. State your interest in the position. (Sound interested and tell what added value you can bring to the job.)

Example: "From what you have been telling me about this position, and from what I know about your company, I know that I have the right mix of experience and education to bring value to this position. Based on past experiences I can "ramp up" quickly and be on board with projects within the first few weeks."

4. Ask about the next step in the process. (Important for you to know for follow up. Ask for the decision date, if possible.)

Example: "I'm interested in knowing what the next step in the process is and when you will be making a decision in order to follow up."

5. Find out how to contact them. (If you don't hear back, you will need to know who to contact and whether they will accept calls to check the status.)

Example: "I'd like to stay in touch and follow up with you in a week or two to see how the process is going and where I stand. How do you prefer that I communicate with you email or phone?"

Closing the sale is important, but your closing should be tailored to the position; your personality and interviewing style, and the interviewer. Keeping these things in mind will help you determine which closing is appropriate for you and the situation.

Photographing-The-Young

If there were one most exciting but stressful kinds of photo shoots there isthat would be child photography. Started out as a hobby of parents who are into photos and photography, the craft has evolved into something more commercialized and a viable source of income through the years.

But for parents who would want to capture the best moments of their children, professional photography lessons wouldnt be that necessary, all they have to do is to learn about certain photography technicalities and observe the attitude and mood swings of their children.

Parents should bear in mind that when trying to photograph their children, they should be ready for occasional tantrums and crying. When this happens, let the child calm down by giving them something that would catch their attention like a toy.

Younger children like those tots under 5 years old are not very conscious or aware of the camera but this doesnt mean that they are very interested in the photo shoot. To get their attention, make sure that you have something that will get their attention.

OTHER CHILD PHOTOGRAPHY STRATEGIES

Portraitsespecially of childrennever fail to evoke feelings to anyone. If youre a budding professional child photographer, it would be better if youll have a brief background in child psychology and you better to create your own strategies by now.

Here are some strategies you can work on and try to reinvent over time:

Strategy no. 1: Prepare for the best and the worst.

Before the actual day of the shoot, make sure that you pay a visit to the house of the family to give you an idea what kind of child/ren you are going to deal with. It is also advisable to meet them personally and memorize their names to create familiarity.

You can also have a sort of ocular inspection around the area so you can picture the ideal background and set up mentally. Before leaving for the actual photo shoot, double check all the necessities and equipment you will need.

Strategy no. 2: Practice the power of smile.

Being friendly or possessing a friendly aura will draw children nearer to you. Smiling will also make them more comfortable dealing with you throughout the shoot.

Strategy no. 3: Impress them your gears.

Get childrens attention by impressing them with stuff they dont know yet. Since they are generally inquisitive, you can get their attention by letting them touch and play with some of your simple photography equipment.

Strategy no. 4: Set the background.

Although a photo studio would give you all the comforts you need in doing your job, this wouldnt ensure a good result for children photography. It would be best if you set a backdrop or location where children can roam around and express themselves freely.

Strategy no. 5: Back to basics with the natural approach.

Do not force a setting or set up where the child is not comfortable. It is best to photograph children in their best elements like riding their own bike or doing some art stuff. These natural settings would be more vivid in the coming years compared to those taken in a stiff and formal environment.

Strategy no. 6: Know the clothing basics.

Days before the shoot, tell the parents to show their kids what they will be wearing. This would ensure the comfort of the child during the shoot.

Strategy no. 7: Bring your best and the most appropriate photography equipment.

Make sure that you bring the best equipment to produce best results. Basics include digital or film SLR camera, variety of lenses, studio lights, flashgun, spare batteries, and compact flash or rolls of film.

Strategy no. 8: Its all in the light.

Aside from having a good subject, make sure that you set up a good lighting because it will greatly affect the overall outcome of the photo.

Strategy no. 9: Be an image capturer.

Always be on guard to capture the best moments throughout the shoot. Always have your finger on the shutter button while your eyes are near the camera.

Strategy no. 10: Always focus on the window of the soul.

Needless to say, photographs where the eyes of subjects are tuned into camera produce the best photographs ever.

Youre Guide to Houseboat Sales

Have you thought about the idea of buying your own houseboat to either escape to on the weekends and holidays? or maybe you want to sell the house and live in your houseboat full time. If so a houseboat sale is the best option for you if you are considering this type of investment in such a prestigious and ever growing boating market.

Without a doubt one of the biggest trends to rise up recently is that of house boating. The houseboat industry is gaining in popularity day by day and more and more people are discovering the potential of a houseboat sale as a great way to secure their own unique watercraft for a very reasonable price. To help people such as yourself, I have put this article together for people who wish to look further into buying a houseboat from a houseboat sale and just what exactly you have to look for when you attend a houseboat sale and wish to make a purchase whether youre a first time buyer or an experienced boater.

When attending a houseboat sale you should also check the age of the vessel and also the manufacturer that originally built the boat, do some research to see whether the builder is a popular and reliable builder and doesnt have a bad reputation. Even call the builder up and let them know that you are attending the houseboat sale for one of their boats and verify the background of it. When inspecting the houseboat sale go over the whole thing with a fine tooth comb from checking the engine log books to making sure the oven works properly. Also look for structural integrity and make sure there are no cracks throughout the craft and major parts are not rusting. Check the engine hours and verify the service log books and generally make sure they are in good condition. Also check the hull or pontoons to make sure they are in good condition and have whether or not they have been sandblasted and repainted recently.

Although a houseboat is essentially a marine water craft you still have to approach a houseboat sale in the same way you would a house made of bricks and motor because in hindsight this is essentially what you are buying, a house. So before you get started you should do some research into a houseboat sale and get a good feel for the boating market in regards to price size brands of builders etc. You should also consider the amount of passengers also know as berths that your desired houseboat should have before attending a houseboat sale. You dont want to buy a 5 berth houseboat if there is 6 members in your family do you! There are strict laws regarding how many people you can carry on a houseboat so this is very important.

Transforming Your Kids Free Time

Kids' free time usually leads to parents' busier periods. But this does not have to be the case. When your kids come home from school or their extracurricular activities, you can continue giving the choice of doing something fun and educative at the same time. If homework and reading for next day's classes is already completed, you can let them choose another type of leisure activity and add a lot of great kid-oriented fun to their daily routine.

If you are wondering how to choose a daily or weekend activity, you should better ask your kids first what they prefer doing. You can prepare beforehand a list of choices and let them choose the ones that they prefer doing alone or along your side and guidance. Visiting a kid's venue, crafting a photo album, painting a huge board to hang it in their bedroom wall, going out to play sports, or meet friends and enjoy a movie or a theatrical presentation, can lead you to experience another type of productive time along with your kids and them to adore you for offering them the chance of doing something different and testing their abilities.

But remember to select the activities wisely. While there are a lot of great kid-oriented activities everywhere, going to one that leaves you sitting on the sidelines and rolling your eyes in boredom is no better than going to a totally "grown-up" event where the kids are climbing the walls. Focus on activities that everyone can participate in and enjoy and take advantage of changing seasons by teaching the kids to ski in winter and swim during summer time. You can always select to visit the children museum on a rainy afternoon and you can always enjoy a movie that "speaks" to both kids and adults, like "Toy Story," "The Incredibles," or "Shrek." These types of funny and interesting activities for all ages can alter your weekend feeling and make even you feel like a child again. In addition, special activities like puppet or magic shows, bowling and ice skating are all big draws for families. Just take yourself back in time and remember those activities you and your parents did while you were a kid and would love to experience now with your own kids as a parent.

Finally, the advice of many experts is to add educational activities into your free-time plans with your children. Bookstores and movie theaters have special child-oriented reading or screening times, which apart from being a fun and restful way to spend a weekend afternoon, can enhance your kids' knowledge background. Of course, you should not forget the "old time favorites," like zoos, aquariums, and children's amusement parks, since they can transform any kid's face by adding a huge happy smile. Even if you have done something similar in the past, special events or local festivities can you're your visits fresh and exciting. If you are convinced that it is time to spend some time doing something different with your kids, then check your local papers and online websites for new and upcoming plays, concerts and festivals. The published ideas for family activities can give you dozens of suggestions and reveal many possible destinations available in your area.

What Your Music Profile Should Say About You

Your online music profile is the bottom-line essential information on WHO you are as a band, singer, songwriter and/or musician. Your music profile, as to how it fits in the big picture online, is your biography or resume that presents you to the music industry, other musicians, and your potential fans. That makes it a very important page on the Internet, right? It needs to be interesting, well-written, informative and to-the-point, for this is you marketing yourself. When writing this document, there is much to consider to make it presentable.

Consider these scenarios:

1. An A&R rep is listening to your music on an indie radio station or webcast and thinks, who is that?! So they click on your name to learn more about you. Your music brought them to your profile. Will they be impressed by what they read?

2. A label rep is browsing the artist profiles on a site for a band they need for a certain project, perhaps local to them. Does your profile, gig information, and band description quickly give them enough details to discover you?

In the Internet world, any webmaster will tell you content is king. Why? Because it is how online visitors find you. The number one source for driving traffic to web pages are search engines, and it is content they want and nothing else. (Content is literally text, characters, paragraphs, sentences its information.) You can easily improve the traffic to your profile by entering as much relevant content about yourself as is necessary to describe your music, history, act, image, and musical goals.

Knowing this and knowing that in this busy-busy click-happy Web world, you have to have your band description clearly stated at the top of the bio! The rest of the fill-in details are at the bottom. If you have captured the readers attention at the top, they will follow through and read more. Otherwise, they will leave your profile and look for another band that presents themselves better than you did.

The best place to start is by creating an outline, in Word (or other program). Also, know how many total characters you can use in the field you are entering information in. Use spell-check and save it for later updating. Collect your thoughts and make notes about your background, your musical history, goals, accomplishments, band members, who plays which instrument, etc.

* The music business is a BUSINESS so present yourself professionally.

The first paragraph should be an introduction. It is the lead-in to who you are, what your music specialty is (genre), where in the world you are from, and perhaps an enthusiastic quote given to you about your music. If you sound like a certain pro band or artist, what makes you different from them?

* Busy industry people may not finish reading after a few lines if the opener does not capture them quickly. And you have to live up to the hype you dish out!

The second paragraph could cover what you are currently up to musically. Here you might mention a new release you are working on, or music projects you are involved with. What promotional plans do you have to support your current activities? Mentioning an upcoming tour or gig would be good here.

The third paragraph will include band member information (who plays what) or brief mention of background experiences, instrumentation, and/or accomplishments, that accentuates your artistic development. Some sites offer tabs or certain fields for detailed information on these entries, so use the available space to present yourself wisely.

The Mission Statement section will cover your music career goals and is aimed at the industry professionals that might be searching for your particular talent. The Influences section will be who your musical influences are, so there is no need to waste the readers time mentioning them elsewhere.

You have to remember, A&R reps, labels, producers, potential collaborators, are all very busy people that have heard it all before. Do not waste words but find a way to stand out from the typical. The music you create may bring them to your profile after they heard it to learn more about you, so it is up to you to show them that you are a person that they can work with.

It is absolutely amazing to see artists that dont take the time to do this. In countless web travels and thousands of music profiles, you see artist descriptions from as short as a one-liner like We want to be heard, to certain social site artist descriptions that go for MILES. There is a big difference in giving the reader vital information that should be included in your profile and info that no one will ever care about that should not.

Therein is the essence of what your music profile should be saying about you.

How To Correct A Slow Running Computer

You push the power button on your computer and 5 minutes later you're finally ready to start computing. It seems as though it takes forever and a day for your computer to get going,Why?

Most likely, the main reason your system is dragging the ground is because of all the junk that runs in the background that you don't see. These are applications you may have installed over time.

Such utilities as scanner drivers, and hard drive monitors can swallow up memory and cpu processes, not to mention adware and spyware creeping into your system. These affect both your computer's bootup process and performance during normal operations.

Another reason for slow pc bootup and performance may be the simple fact that your computer is aging. Computers running Windows 98 and Windows Me with cpu speeds of 500mhz or less are good candidates for slow operation. These system often have inadequate RAM Memory as well.

OK,so you,re no doubt asking, how can you correct this ever present, nagging problem. If your system was purchase when dinosaurs roamed the earth, consider upgrading by adding more memory,a larger hard drive, and if possible a faster cpu.

You can free up hard drive space by deleting files and applications you don't use often.Improve performance by not overlooking basic pc maintenance.Running scandisk and Defragment are crucial to pc preformance. And try third party memory management programs.

Running scandisk will find and attempt to correct errors on your hard drive.System Defragment will free up hard drive space by re-arranging files in an orderly manner. This allows the cpu to find files much faster and not have to roam all over the hard drive to load files into memory.

You can get more bang for your buck by purchasing a faster computer however. When adding the costs of components and the increase in speed and performance you will gain, you may come out better to purchase another system.

Windows operating system have a utility named Msconfig that can display programs that bootup and instantly run on your computer. To start Msconfig, select Start,Run,and type "msconfig" without the quotes,in the Run dialog box.Msconfig does not show all programs running in the background however.

If you have Windows XP as your operating system, try to delete all files in the prefetch directory. Windows XP Professional monitors files that are used when the computer starts and when you start programs.

When Windows XP Professional monitor these files, it prefetches them.Prefetching data is the process whereby data that is expected to be requested is read ahead into the cache. Prefetching boot files and applications decreases the time needed to start Windows XP Professional and start applications.

These files if not deleted will lower system resources and slow pc performance by loading programs that are no longer being used.To delete these files, open C,your system drive, and go to windows/prefetch.Delete all files or at least those more than 3 weeks old and, reboot.

Try to check to see if your computer and the CPU Chip are not overheating. Excessive heat will cause your system to perform much closer.Make sure your computer is well ventilated

How To Build Great Links For Your Web Site

Building effective links is one of the most time consuming and challenging aspects of web site design. Ultimately, link building can spell the difference between a high search engine ranking web page and one that disappears in a sea of similar web sites, so it is best to take the time to do it right.

There are certainly newer search engine algorithms being developed for the web but effective linking continues to be the most decisive factor in search engine optimization and will likely be for several years more.

Links as the name implies, are the most basic connectors to all the pages on the Interent and is the easiest way for a given application to gauge the relevance and integrity of a web page.

People love lists; find a way to integrate a list into your site. This can be anything from a list of tips or things to avoid or a list suggested reading, for example. Lists give the impression of being a definitive source of information and many people will want to link to them.

Often people will link to a site if they feel that it is an authority on a given subject; they will then feel confident about recommending that site to other people. That is what link building is all about after all, a sort of digital referral or stamp of approval.

Every web site should strive to have reliable and well-researched content. Try to keep your content informative but simple; if no one can understand what your web site says they probably wont want to link to it! Check your text for spelling or grammatical errors; a web site riddled with poor spelling and bad sentence construction doesnt seem very professional or authoritative.

Online news sites are a good way to establish links. Some of the things you can do are: submit an article for online publication or syndicate an article with a news site. Reputable sites usually enjoy a high search engine rank for their articles and receive plenty of traffic. You may also send press releases or trade articles with other sitesor even write an article about another site and ask then to link back to your site; most will be happy to repay the favor.

Establish contacts with the Better Business Bureau or the Chamber of Commerce in your area or the relevant city and state government offices. You may even look around closer to home by submitting your link to the local library or exchanging links with local businesses in your area; even non-competing businesses in the same field.

Consider starting an affiliate program; it may not lead directly to high SEO value but it can still prove useful in providing additional links.

Submit your site to directories that allow free submissions such as DMOZ (http://dmoz.org) or even paid directories. You can even take this a step further by creating your own directory of similar web sites. You can obviously link to your own site here and even include other important pages in addition to the home page. Quality listings are important here so if it is a useful directory to the most number of people, it will easily attract links.

You may want to post a link to your site in classifieds sites such as Craigslist or if you belong to user groups like Yahoo and Google groups it is often acceptable to post links to your site if you are asking or answering a question. Just make sure it is in the context of the discussion, as most people do not take kindly to being spammed.

Reviews are another great way to get people to link to your site. If you have a reputable looking site and carry informative, well-written reviews, theres a good chance that your articles will receive high search engine rankings. Try to keep your reviews on-topic, informative and thorough, and be specific whenever possible.

Blogging has become an integral part of the Internet and is one of the most effective means of linking; you can either drop a few words of comment on someones blog or link to them from your own blog. Most blogs will be happy to link back to you. Try to update your blog regularly and post interesting content so people will want to link to you.

If your budget permits, explore the possibility of hiring a professional web-linking publicist (yes they do exist!) or consultant for your web site. If you choose carefully this will free you up to take care of other areas of your web site and leave the details of link building to the experts.

Those are a few things to do to create good links, what about things you should avoid? These methods will actually hurt your visibility on the web as it may cause search engines to ban your site or ignore it altogether!

Do not spam forums! Nobody likes a spammer and can usually tell if someone joins a discussion forum for the sole purpose of self-promotion. A sure way to annoy people is to post a non-relevant reply to a question and then include a linkor worse not even answer the question at all!

Choose carefully when submitting your site to directory services; a poor one wont help increase your traffic at all and may carry out-of-date or off topic links.

When asking someone to link to your site, make sure that there is a good reason why he should; maybe your site is similar to his own in subject matter or your site showcases him, his products or his web site in a favorable light.

Take the time to compose a polite, well written personal request for linking. It doesnt have to be long but the important thing is to make it seem like a genuine request as opposed to an impersonal, automated email. Do not pester a Webmaster with several, persistent emails; it is annoying and will not likely help your cause any. If you dont get a reply, move on.

Wing Chun Wisdom from Lo Man Kam

Interview conducted by Bradley Temple and John Kang

Sifu Lo Man-Kam is the nephew of wing chun grandmaster Yip Man, and the only student of the grandmaster teaching in Taiwan. He recently took some time to discuss what makes a good student, and what to look for in a good teachera dialogue done with the hope of passing some of his wisdom onto the wing chun world. Those interested in contacting sifu Lo Man-Kam about studying in Taiwan, or for questions about wing chun in general, can write him at 4F, No. 31, Alley 51, Lane 12, Pa-teh Rd., Sec. 3 Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C.

INSIDE KUNG-FU: Could you first tell us a little about your personal background?

LO MAN-KAM: Yip Man was my maternal uncle. When I was very young in Mainland China, my mother told me many stories about Yip Man, so I already knew he was very good at kung-fu. At that time though, he only taught a few good friends, and never considered teaching young people. Therefore, neither Yip Mans own sons nor I had a chance to learn from him. However, in 1950, after The Nationalist Party fled to Taiwan, Yip Man immigrated to Hong Kong. It was there that he first started teaching wing chun for a living, and I had the opportunity to learn, starting from the age of 18.

There were not many students in the first class. Leung Sheung and Lok Yiu were the first two students, and I was the third. Leung Sheung passed away many years ago, so now, only Lok Yiu and I remain from the original class. Though I was not in Hong Kong at the time, Yip Mans sons came to Hong Kong around 1960. The classes had gradually become bigger and bigger.

IKF: What did your training entail?

LMK: When I first started in 1950, the night classes ran from about 8-10 p.m. Sometimes, we would stand in the high horse stance for 20 minutes. Yip Man would walk by, and check your stances by suddenly pushing you. If your feet moved, he would make you do it all over again. Once we passed this stage, we had to stand in a single-leg stance. And once again, he would push your body or kick your leg to make sure you were stable.

After holding the stance, we would go through the siu nm tao, very slowly. Again, Yip Man would always test your hand positions to make sure they were strong, pushing the wu sao back, or pulling the tan sao down. So in these stages, we learned not only from watching, listening, and imitating, but from these random tests as well. Yip Man thought, no one will ever tell you, Im going to use my left fist to punch the right side of your stomach; everything is random, so your kung-fu must be live so as to adapt to ever-changing situations.

From the form, we moved into single sticky hands, then lap-sao, repeating the sequence over and over again. Then of course, we would do sticky hands. Each person has a different feeling, so we would work with each person in the class. We would keep going until we were tired; if you stopped to read a newspaper or goof off, someone would pull you over to do chi sao. Yip Man would always be there, telling us which technique was best for a given situation; if your partner was tall, you should use this technique, if he was short, use that technique.

IKF: What did you do outside class to learn wing chun?

LMK: At that time in Hong Kong, food was very cheap, 1 HK dollar could buy snacks for six people. So after class, all the students would get together and buy some rice soup or fruit and talk about what we had learned that day. Yip Man would always come with us, and answer any questions we had, or tell us where we could have done better, or give us some insight to ponder. So we students had a great sense of camaraderie at that time, and great respect for our teacher.

IKF: What was your relation to Bruce Lee?

LMK: He learned from Yip Man in Kowloon. He did not study for a long time, because he later immigrated to America. Of course, I did sticky hands with him. His skill at sticky hands was not exactly great, but he had excellent feeling. His shoulders, elbows, and arms were very soft, and his angles were good.

IKF: What brought you to Taiwan?

LMK: I came to Taiwan about 30 years ago to enroll in military school, after which I worked in the Taiwans equivalent of the CIA for ten years. In 1975, after reaching the rank of major, I retired from the army and opened my own wing chun school.

IKF: Are you still doing anything for the public?

LMK: One of my original students was a police officer, and he told his precinct chief that I was a good teacher. They asked me to give a speech, and apparently were impressed. Through this introduction, I was later invited to teach martial arts to the police special forcessimilar to the FBI of America. I wrote a book called, The Martial Art of the Police for them. It is like a text book, dealing with kung-fu, though not wing chun in particular.

IKF: How do you think Yip Man influenced your way of teaching?

LMK: In Hong Kong, Yip Man had many classes, and sometimes, Leung Sheung, Lok Yiu, and I had a chance to teach some of these classes. Yip Man taught us how to teach. He placed great importance on chi sao. Kung-fu is like a sport, a dead thing. You can perform a tan sao, or bong sao, but these mean nothing unless they can be executed based on feeling. How you learn to use these depends on your teacher. Maybe a woodworker can carve a bird. He can give you the carving, or he can teach you how to use a knife. And of course, your carving will be different from his, because you are a different person.

Yip Man said that just because you are good at wing chun doesnt mean you can teach. If your students are good at wing chun, then that is testimony to your teaching skill! You might be a champion fighter, but if your students are bad, that shows you are a bad teacher. If a student has a good teacher, he will leave the school better than the teacher. Some people think that the student can never be better than his teacher. But if the teacher shows the student everything, and the student continues on his own, of course he will have both his teachers skill and his own. I hope that someday, all of my students surpass me.

IKF: What is your approach to teaching?

LMK: I use my own feeling, and push the student along. I must test his feeling, to see if it is good or bad. After the siu nin tao, I start with single sticky hands, and then move to double sticky hands, passing the correct feeling step by step. There is no set time frame for this instruction: some students move faster than others.

Being a teacher is like being a gardener you must rend to the flowers to make sure they blossom. And some flowers take longer than others because of soil, lighting, water... the teacher must regulate factors such as the students own feeling, his frame of thought, his physical strengths and limitations.

Some students want to rush the process, but they can only absorb so much! It is like drowning a plant with water. Once, a rich man came to me and asked me to teach him the wooden dummy form. He said he would pay me NT $200,000 (U.S. $8,000). I refused, and he offered me NT $500,000 (U.S. $20,000). When I once again refused him, he asked why. I said, If I teach you the wooden dummy form, I will be stealing your money. You dont know what the dummy really means; you would just be moving your arms, but you wouldnt be able to apply the movement. People must learn step by step. This is the way I teach.

IKF: What is your method of teaching sticky hands?

LMK: I think sticky hands is the most important part of wing chun. Without it, you just have techniques, but you dont know the when and why of using them. When I am doing chi sao with a student, I will always give him an opening. If he doesnt find it, I must tell him that he had an opportunity which he did not take. I will tell him what technique works best for a given situation, or tell them if they are chasing hands. Some people say that the teacher must always do his best against the student. But this way, the student will never get the correct feeling. The teacher must give the student a chance! Maybe the student might hit the teacher, and onlookers will say that the teachers kung-fu is bad. No! He is giving the student a chance! He is not my enemy, he is my student! Yip Man always gave his students an opening.

I was told that at some school in Europe, the student must sign a contract, and if there is any contact, the student must say, Yes, thank you sifu; or Yes, sorry sifu. The sifu is scared that the student is better than him, so he beats him to scare away any potential questions the sifu cant answer. This kind of kungfu and the sifu who teaches it are bad. If it was good, why does he need a contract? His student asks him how to use a particular technique, and bam, bam, bam (simulates hitting the student); then the student will be too scared to ask any more questions. Everything is, Yes, sifu. Even if the sifu knows nothing, if you dont ask questions, you will always think he is great.

IKF: So the sifu is worried he will lose face?

LMK: What is face? If my students are no good, that is bad face; if they are good, that is good face.

IKF: Some people say Yip Man taught them secret, closed-door techniques.

LMK: I dont think Yip Man kept any secret techniques. Why didnt he show me? Why didnt he show his sons? Yip Man didnt teach his own son, but taught you? (laughs) Yip Man had private students, but I dont think he taught them anything he didnt show anyone else.

I always teach openly. If you have a question for me, I will give you an answer. Maybe I dont have time today, but tomorrow I will answer. Maybe some people think that after class, I just go to bed. Of course at night, I will think about the question. Because you are my student, and want my help, I will help you! All my students are like my children. Even with my own son, I will tell him when he is right or wrong, even in front of other students. Why should I keep any secrets? It is better to have 20 good students teaching abroad than to have one old man in Taiwan! (laughs) This is my way. In my class, there is no first, second, or third place. Everyone is the same, though some move quickly, others slowly.

IKF: Do you have any last words, advice for students?

LMK: When doing sticky hands, do your techniques quickly, but dont hurry. This means depending on your feeling to find an opening, not using your speed to force one. Quickly means going to college, getting an education, and finding a good job. Hurrying means robbing a bank. If you hurry with your techniques, you will not learn anything. In the end, you will have nothing.

Furthermore, you must remember that chi sao is not a freefight, not sparring. In a freefight, you hit my chin, I hit your chin; you break my nose, I break your nose. There is no winner or loser when both of you are missing teeth! Free chi sao, however, is with two friends, who want to learn from each other. You stop here (he punches at a student but stops before making contact) because you are afraid to hurt your partner, and he does the same because he is afraid to hurt you. If there is contact, it is only a little. Chi sao is not about winning or losing --- it is a tool for making your techniques come alive.

Simple Web Design Steps to Improve Your Website's Readability

Websites that make their customers work to read them are not the best way to get business. Miniscule fonts, text in colours that make it hard to see against the background colour, and lines that are piled on top of each other are problems, but they're easy to correct. Let's jump right in and look at five easy fixes:

Format your text using CSS.

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) are the way to go - use one style sheet and control how text looks on your entire site. Make a change to the style sheet and your whole site is updated. It makes life a lot simpler

Make the font size big enough to read

Consider your target audience. Even if they are a group of teenage girls looking for new shoes, it's never a good idea to use tiny type. It doesn't have to be enormous, but up to a point, larger type is better. 12-pt Verdana is better than 8-pt Verdana.

Make the text contrast with its background.

The more contrast, the better. Black-on-white or white-on-black are examples of the highest contrast you can get. Use colours if you like, but if you squint at the page and your text basically vanishes, there's not enough contrast.

Give the lines room to breathe.

Don't stack lines on top of each other. Use the line-spacing directive in CSS and give it some space; I'll often set line-spacing to 140% of the height of a typical line.

Break text up into chunks.

No matter how good a writer you are, people don't want to read endless pages of text. Break it up by using headlines that reflect the subject of the paragraph(s) to follow so people can scan down to the parts that really interest them, or use bulleted lists to change the pace of the writing and slow down the scanning.

And finally (not one of the 5 Easy Ways to Improve Legibility but still quite important) check your spelling. Nothing irritates me more on a web page than spelling errors - it simply makes you look like you don't care enough to get it right. Use that ubiquitous spell-check tool.

Making your website's content more legible is easy. It doesn't take a lot of time, mainly common sense. The payoff will be text that's more readable, customers that stick around long enough to get your message, and improved credibility with your visitors.

Your Guide To Wining And Dining In Bangkok

A food haven with countless awesome eateries to choose from, Bangkok is a city of restaurants aplenty, featuring all kinds of food. Whether you want to whoop it up hi-so style and dine alfresco while gasping at breathtaking views of the city, chow down on the best steak in a Bangkok restaurant or sip authentic hot green tea and taste your first piece of fresh sushi, this exciting city has it all to keep hungry tourists happy. Still not sure where to start? Heres the lowdown on some of Bangkoks favourite places to eat.

If dining on a rooftop overlooking jaw-dropping views of the sparkling Chao Phraya River and the glamorously lit city of Bangkok sounds like your perfect idea of a good dinner, make sure you visit some of these hip and happening places. Dine among jetsetters and rich kids at the world-renowned Sirocco (tel: +66 2 624 9999) on the 64th floor of the Bangkoks landmark State Tower on Silom road, where you can enjoy a choice of scrumptious Mediterranean and international dishes and an extensive list of drinks.

Another noteworthy venue to check out is the equally famous Bangkok restaurant Vertigo (tel: +66 2 679 1200) located on the 61st floor of Banyan Tree Hotel on Sathorn road. Vertigo is also home to the Moon Bar, where you can find a number of imported wines, whiskies and tasty cocktails.

Thai culinary delights are, of course, not to be missed once you are in Thailand. Bangkok is home to many good Thai restaurants serving tangy, authentic Thai food. Certainly, you can find a wide range of quick Thai dishes everywhere along the street, but if you wish to experience royal Thai cuisine amid an elegant atmosphere with Thai classical music in the background, there are a few places worth visiting.

Baan Khanitha (tel: +66 2 675 4200) features outstanding and authentic Thai dishes with unique flair, while Blue Elephant Cooking School & Restaurant (tel: +66 2 673 9353) boasts exquisite interior and wonderfully well-prepared and decorated Thai dishes. The Blue Bar also offers a wide range of drinks to finish off your evening in style.

Not only known for local cuisine, Bangkok restaurants are also famed for many other Asian fares including Chinese, Japanese and Indian. Tsu (tel: +66 2 656 7700) at JW Marriott Hotel and Keyaki at the Pan Pacific Hotel (tel: +66 2 632 9000) are among the noteworthy Japanese places with authentic Japanese dishes, while Mei Jiang at the Peninsula Hotel (tel: +66 2 861 2888), China House at the Oriental Hotel (tel: +66 2 659 9000) and Bai Yun at the Banyan Tree Hotel (tel: +66 2 679 1200) are worth a try if you are up for top-notch, authentic Chinese cuisine with impeccable services.

For piquant tikka and samosas, Indus on Sukhumvit 26 (tel: +66 2 258 4900) and Royal Indian in the old town (tel: +66 2 221 6565) are expert at creating zesty Indian dishes with a spicy kick, while Rang Mahal at Rembrandt Hotel (tel: +66 2 261 7100) and Tandoor at Holiday Inn Hotel (tel: +66 2 238 4300) showcase divine Indian grub with live Indian music.

Although you may be able find a plenty of palatable steaks back in your country, Bangkok is the hub of some of the most famous steakhouses in the region. The one and only five-star rated steakhouse in Bangkok cant be any place else but the expensive yet truly satisfying New York Steakhouse at JW Marriot Hotel (tel: +66 2 656 7700), with a variety of mouthwatering imported steaks and appetising side dishes.

Great American Rib (tel: +66 2 258 5942) is also second-to-none when it comes to good steaks. Open-air with a country styled atmosphere, cowgirl waitresses and super-sized dishes of ribs, this Texas influenced eatery is perfect for a family get-together dinner. The ribs are so yummy and huge that you can generously share them with your Uncle Sam and Aunt Wendy if you like.

European cuisines in Bangkok have gained a huge popularity among locals, ex-pats and tourists alike. While Italian restaurants seem to be appearing on every corner across the city, there is only a handful that is really worthwhile. Try the 11-year-old Gianni Ristorante (tel: +66 2 252 1619) for their home-styled, authentic Italian dishes or Biscotti (tel: +66 2 255 5443) at the Four Seasons Hotel, boasting not only chic design but also nice risotto and gnocchi. Pizza aficionados will find Scoozi Pizzeria (tel: +66 2 391 5113) and Bella Napoli (tel: +66 2 259 0405) particularly interesting for their good-valued pizzas and pastas.

Good French restaurants can mostly be found at large hotels, including Bangkoks old favourite, Le Normandie at the Oriental Bangkok Hotel (tel: +66 2 659 9000). An exception is Le Vendme (tel: +66 2 662 0530) on Sukhumvit 31, serving refined French food with a creative twist. Bei Otto (tel: +66 2 262 0892) is still known to be the best German restaurant in town, oozing an authentic and captivating feel of the old Deutschland.

Party animals can also find a magnificent array of street vendors along Sukhumvit road selling chicken, beef and pork BBQ into the early hours, while kebabs on soi Nana (Sukhumvit soi 4) are the best in town, boasting kicking homemade sauce. These snacks are ideal after a late night out at a Bangkok bar or pub.

Bangkok is brimming with good eateries and simply irresistible food. Its is definitely one of the best places in the world to pig on good food. Besides dodgy hanky-panky business and other things, food is definitely one of the top reasons to visit Bangkok.

Andy Burrows recommends Thai cuisine as he thinks it is the worlds tastiest and healthiest; for an introduction to Thai food he advises; http://www.1stopbangkok.com/hospitality/restaurants/ and http://www.1stopbangkok.com/hospitality/bars/Employers Search

A GOA Travel Guide

Goa has a certain reputation, which dates back as far as the 1960s, where it was regarded as a hippy paradise, a place for dropouts, and flower power, a not to be missed place for travellers, and probably regarded as the world centre for dope.

All of this whilst not totally inaccurate might put you off a visit to Goa, which would be a mistake. Sure Goa can still be the place for all night parties, and beaches crowded with people selling hash to fund their alternative lifestyles, but there is much more to Goa than that.

As background, Goa was a Portugese colony for hundreds of years, and that length of stay, they were finally kicked out in 1961, leaves an indelible impression, from Portugese churches, the fact that 30% of the population is Catholic. You will find European style villas scattered around in the rice fields, palm groves, often bearing coats of arms, and many imposing houses behind walls and locked gates. All of this makes Goa completely different to anywhere on the Indian Sub Continent.

Although Goa was colonised by the Portugese over 500 years ago, it has new colonists, in that literally thousands of tourists visit every winter, many from Europe, but there is also a new generation of middle class young Indians from places like Delhi and Mumbai.

There is a definite divide between on one hand the young generation, bombing around on bikes, going from one beach to another, having a great and very noisy time, often partying all night. This makes parts of Goa a nightmare for the middle class tourist who seeks a quiet quality five star resort, but the great joy of Goa, is that it has the room, the culture, the scenery to cope with both ends of the spectrum.

So if you are looking for bargain prices, cheap accommodation, crowded beaches, hawkers, and action of the legal and perhaps slightly illegal kind, where food and drink are cheap, and the weather is fantastic then Goa is the place for you.

On the other hand if your pleasure is to found in historic sites, on deserted beaches, or on the beach of a luxury resort, then go to the very far north or the deep south, and Goa will be a dream come true for you.

Be warned however, many have come here for a vacation, and been seduced They have never gone home, its that kind of paradise!!

Ken English spends a lot of time staying in tropical destinations, he loves Goa, check out http://www.worldwidevacationspots.com/categories/Indian-Sub-Continent/Goa/Xs

Avoiding Undesired Hassles In Satellite TV Offers

There are tons of scams in satellite TV online business. To avoid these nightmares, satellite TV shoppers should always order Dish Network or DirecTV deals from the right satellite TV dealers and avoid ordering programming channels that you do not need.

The right satellite TV dealers

A reliable satellite TV dealer is most crucial in getting a good satellite TV deal. Picking up the right dealer can earn you a bargain in the deal; however bumping into an inexperience dealer or scammers will definitely bring nightmares to you.

Often, satellite TV scammers claim that they offer the best satellite dish deals and promotions. They might offer fake promise on their deals, extremely low monthly subscription rates, next-day installation, and unlimited number of free satellite systems to lure satellite TV shoppers. But once customers signed up, they find hidden activation fees, high shipping costs for free extras, installation dates continuously missed or pushed back, as well as outrageous cancellation fees.

In order to avoid such hassles, I suggest shoppers to shop only from reliable satellite TV dealers.

But, how can you know its a reliable dealer?

The Internet gives us the convenience to research about the satellite TV dealers. Learn about the background of those dealers before you key in your credit card info: Are they an authorized dealer? Are they in business for long enough? Are they offering secure order page if they offer online purchase? How is the customer feedback on their services? Do they provide customer services via phone calls? Is the order 100% guaranteed with full refunds?

The right programming package

If you are going after Dish Network, standard programming packages are Americans Top 60, 120, 180, and Everything Pak, price ranged from around $30 to $90; DirecTV standard programming packages are DirecTV Total Choice standard, Plus, and Premier, price ranged from around $40 to $90. If you are not sure on which programming package to go for, I suggest you to compare them by visiting satellite TV consumer website at http://www.satellitetvissue.com.

What should be in your mind when selecting satellite TV programs is that you should select the programming package that is suitable for you, not the programming packages that given with freebies. Do not blind by retailer's promotional words and order things that you do not need.

Conclusion: Don't get satellite TV!

Yes, dont get satellite TV, if you do not need TV that much. (Perhaps this is the best way to avoid satellite TV scams.)

Without a doubt satellite TV deals are quite a bargain when compare to the cables. The free satellite systems sounds very good bargains; the low price 250+ programming packages sounds unbelievable cheap; the live sport events heat up your sport-nerves. But, do you need TV that much? Or you are actually good enough with the local channels? I think satellite TV deals are very good bargains, I recommend you to switch to satellite TV if you have other paid TV services, but I also strongly suggest that you spend wisely and get only what you need.

Mayan Civilization: Pretty Impressive

Upon seeing Mel Gibsons Apocalypto I became fascinated with Mayan Culture. With My background as a cultural anthropology minor in college I decided to do some research into Mayan Civilization particularly from a cultural perspective.

The first thing that struck me was how far back the Mayan Civilization goes. It is believed that they came to our part of the world in the 4th ice age via the Bering Strait. My research has led me to believe that they originally descended from Egypt migrated through Asia and then onto Siberia, Alaska and what we call North America. As the Ice melted they migrated south. Most researchers are split with the Egyptian theory. I find that many of the cultural practices including the building of pyramids and their hieroglyphic language closely mirrored the Egyptian culture at various points of pre-historic and historic history.

As soon as the ice age came to an end we see a shift from humans being total carnivores to include plants in their diets. The early Mayan Descendants started agricultural villages as far back as approximately 9000 BC. Stone tools as well as pottery were found in Guatemala dating back to 9000 BC.

The Mayan Empire was not one homogeneous country. It was a series of independent states that were connected by a common culture that unified them. The root of the Mayan culture was based on the Olmec, to which the Mayan adopted, adapted and expanded upon.

Religion and politics went hand and hand in Mayan Civilization. Kings were born to throne and secondary rulers by nepotism. New Kings were the eldest of the male children to the previous kings. Many time priests and kings were one and the same. The king was usually the head priest also. The ruling class was also either hand chosen or born into the royal family, as were priests. In Mayan belief it was the King and his reigning powers that ensured the continuation of the universe as with the Egyptian belief System. The Mayans were big on bloodletting and the higher the rank in class the more blood one was expected to sacrifice. It was not uncommon for the king to pierce his penis or tongue with the blood being part of the sacrifice.

The Mayan Civilization was the only Mesoamerican pre-Columbian culture to have a written language. They also developed complicated calendar systems as well as astronomy and mathematics. The Mayans did practice human sacrifice in times of extreme difficulty. No one really knows why the Mayan Civilization collapsed even before the arrival of the Spaniards. It is speculated that natural things like natural disasters, disease as epidemics and climate change were part of the environmental factors to help the decline of Maya Civilization. Non-Environmental factors included foreign invasion and warfare, peasant revolt and trade break down. With these factors already present it was easy for the Spanish to come in and finish off the Mayan Civilization.

Reginas new site on Mayan Civilization is a must for those who want any information on that subject. With her background in cultural anthropology she clearly gives a clear and detailed re-telling of the Mayan Civilization. The information is fascinating and covers many aspects of the Mayan Civilization from many perspectives. Definitely check this site out for your Mayan Civilization information. http://www.mayancivilizationinfo.comXs Ob

A History and Background of Credit Cards

Credit cards work to make tremendous revenues to credit card companies, banks and retail sales. They do not however work the way they used to work for the customers that temporarily possess them. Many years ago when credit cards were invented and I was a young boy they were a means to finance household items considered necessary. These were things like washing machines and clothes dryers. Credit cards today have such a high interest that they are no longer attractive to purchase such items. Credit cards are primarily now seem to be used to hide and avoid indebtedness.

There is nothing really good about debt. Americans have been convinced by retail salesmen and the banks that to have good credit one must have a solid credit history through credit cards or credit accounts. A solid history means more than the fact that you have consistently made payments on time without failure. The credit card companies and the banks evaluate your spending tends, the debt load over time, your savings history, checking deposit history and actual check spending history. This personal information is felt by these institutions to be proprietary, belonging to the institution because of their unique methods of collection, rather than belonging to the individual who creates this activity.

A credit card, if it is the only credit card you possess, could start improving a portion of bad debt only if you liquidate your current debt in a steady, reliable manner. This will only show a history of reliable payment. As I have already stated banks and credit card companies are not interested only in your reliability, they want the "juice" off of the advanced credit you have obtained. This means they only want you if they can get their interest in a regular and steady manner. This is not the same as pay your debt regularly until it vanishes. They want you to remain indebted permanently but repaying them in a timely manner.

If you are debt free you may not be judged to be a good credit risk. This is the state that underage children and young adults find themselves whenever they attempt to secure a credit card. Simply stated, good credit doesn't mean what it did just fourteen years ago. The protections afforded the consumer since the Depression of 1929 no longer exist. The Financial Laws passed through Congress in 1992 allowed banks, insurance companies, especially health insurance companies investment firms to handle banking, insurance and investment operations. Laws passed after 1929 had prevented banks from insurance and direct stock exchange trading, likewise insurance companies could not pursue banking operations or stock exchange nor could stock exchange companies pursue insurance or banking operations. This freedom was granted without the subsequent protections of the consumer included in these new laws. There currently exists no single body of consumer law. The private citizen must fight the triumvirate of bank, insurance and stock exchange through the court system.
